The Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association - Asala launched a small women's advisory council yesterday, Wednesday, that includes a group of women entrepreneurs, in cooperation with the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The council includes nine women from different sectors, who were chosen based on common selection criteria between the Chamber of Commerce and the Asala Association and aims to represent project owners in the Chamber of Commerce, discuss the requirements of women entrepreneurs and organize activities that serve their projects, in addition to enhancing their presence, in economic and official institutions.

The Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association - Asala launched a small women's advisory council yesterday, Wednesday, that includes a group of women entrepreneurs, in cooperation with the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The council includes nine women from different sectors, who were chosen based on common selection criteria between the Chamber of Commerce and the Asala Association and aims to represent project owners in the Chamber of Commerce, discuss the requirements of women entrepreneurs and organize activities that serve their projects, in addition to enhancing their presence, in economic and official institutions.

The Executive Director of the Asala Association, Mrs. Rajaa Rantisi, said this council is part of the association’s advocacy and lobbying agenda, in order to support entrepreneurial women who, own small projects in line with the association’s vision and mission. Mrs. Rantisi indicated that this council comes with the aim of involving women entrepreneurs in discussing the policies, laws and regulations of the chambers of commerce, as well as proposing recommendations and amendments that take into account their needs.

Mrs. Rantisi added that this step is considered the first towards enhancing the presence of women in decision-making positions, the most important of which being the boards of directors in the chambers of commerce, stressing the need to repeat it in the rest of the governorates.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Chamber of Commerce Mr. Abdul Ghani Al-Atari, affirmed that the formation of this council comes within the framework of the Chamber's partnership with  Asala Association, to enhance the presence of women in the board elections of the Chambers of Commerce, hoping that this council will be able to represent female entrepreneurs, and be a tool to enhance their role.

Mrs. Fida Abdul-Razzaq, a member of the Council, confirmed that her desire to participate in this council came in order to represent women entrepreneurs, and work to enhance their participation in the Chamber of Commerce, in addition to providing them with better services.

It is noteworthy that this council is part of the campaign "Promoting the Participation of Women in the Chamber of Commerce Elections" carried out by the Asala Association as part of the project, “Creating economic opportunities for women and young women in the West Bank’’, "GROW", funded by the Government of Canada, and implemented by the Cowater Sogema Company in partnership with the Asala Association, and in cooperation With the Ministry of National Economy.
