The Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association – Asala held an activity on February 5th, 2023 that focused on Bee-centered Eco routes. Beekeepers from all around the West Bank, as well as people who are interested in the field, will participate in the event.
The event included a presentation of tourism eco routes of apiaries, which is a point of the MedBEESinessHUBs project, of which Asala is a partner. The tourist guide to be presented highlights the 5 most prominent routes that have the potential to be improved upon to fit tourism standards, and at the same time lead to apiaries in the areas, which are in those locations due to the high biodiversity of these areas.
The guide’s preparation was supervised by Mr. Issa Al Shatlet, who Asala contracted. Mr. Issa presented the guide at the event.
This guide, and the idea of linking tourism routes to apiaries and their areas, is a unique idea, which pushes towards the activation of tourist activities for it to become more societal rather than remain in its traditional sense.
It is worth mentioning that MedBEESinessHubs aims to support the economies of rural communities in Cyprus, Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, and Palestine through the empowerment of local residents, especially youth, and networking among them in order to develop handmade honeybee products, related businesses, and tourism service networks, which in turn contributes to building a sustainable economy based on the honeybee sector in the Mediterranean.
